1 Timothy 4:12-16

(I skipped Thursday.)

Today, I forgot my camera. Well, that's not too bad, I will not talk about the day much. Only one two hour section of the day.

Pastor Heston and I biked two kilometers to some of his friends' houses. Heston talked for about an hour about when Jesus was born and the King in the land at the time wanted to find him, so he ordered every baby under two to be killed. And how the angel told Joseph and Mary to head for Egypt. He pretty much read the same ten verses over and over.

Then Heston asked me if I had a comment or anything to say. So started the my talking session. Lol.

I talked on 1 Timothy 4:12 - 16. This is the one on my blog.

I started by asking the two guys if they considered themselves young. They said no. They were probably in their forties or fifties. Then I asked them if they considered themselves young compared with God. They said yes. I then read this scripture:

1 Timothy 4:12-16New International Version (NIV)

12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.  13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.  14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

"Go out a spread to word to the surrounding villages. These people might know nothing about Christianity or barely know that much. Not enough to save them. And you know about it; you're a Christian. You're saved. Like the Lord said in this verse. " Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."

This way they will see how holy you are in the Lord and know that you are with the Lord not an impostor. Like in verse 14, you have the gift from the elders and this is your area.

In 16, "Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." So persevere in them. Even the witch-doctors, because those are the ones making a separation from God with their evil ways. And you don't have to pursue a whole crowd. You can pursue one; mentoring him with Christ. Raise him up in the Lord, so that he can go out and preach to the other villages."

Then one of them asked, "What if they won't let you mentor them?"

"Go home and pray. The next day they will open up to you and let you share your stories and advice with them."

"Ok," was his response

"And remember. You don't get into heaven by good works. Don't think by doing all this mentoring and preaching you will be getting into heaven. It is the heart and the motive that gets you into heaven. So in your heart, if you find the joy in preaching and mentoring, then you will be doing it more freely. Those are the types of people that the Lord does the most work in. That's about it for my word."

Pastor Heston finished translating my sentence into his language for the guy, and then guy thanked me for my words and told me that they were very helpful. That was the Chief of that area that we were chatting with. He and his friend. They would like us to come back next Friday, so that Heston and I can start a bible study there. This week there was two people. Next week around twelve!
