A Few of My Malawian Friends and their Talent

(Heads up: I skipped Thursday for a day of break. Don't worry; nothing happened.)

After I finished my pipeline, I headed over to Samuel's house for an afternoon meet. He is a twenty-one year old guy that is in the gardening part of Hope Village. We talked about his future and his past. He used to own a shop in Nchalo, which is a village 20 kilometers away, but then he went away for a night and his wife went home to sleep. While she slept, the thieves stole everything from the shop. He doesn't have enough money to rebuild a shop now, so he is a gardener earning 2000 kwatcha a week. One thousand kwatcha equals $2.50. He needs about twenty thousand kwatcha to build his shop, but the two thousand kwatcha a week he earns only pays for his food for the week. Samuel has a two year old child, and has been married for about two years now. He is an amazing man that is so sweet to be around.

2:30 came and so did the Talent Show. It started at that time, but the people didn't arrive for another hour. That is Malawi time - always an hour late. This girl below is Memory. She is adorable, and her laugh is amazing.

Big Eyed Memory.
While we waited, these three girls started dancing and singing. Everyone gave them their sunglasses, and BOOM - We had a concert going.

Forgot their names, but they're cute all the same. xD
The talent show started, and it was great. All but the noise. Lol. Yeh, I had another headache. I lost my headache before Keiran and my act, which was the 13th. Our act was being lazy. Surprisingly, quite a lot of them found it funny.  We didn't even really do anything, just sit there and look around.

Don't Ask.
This is Robert the 'youth pastor' of Hope Village. I think I'm going to help him kick off his youth group again with a Mission Impossible Game, some basketball, and a lip sync/air band battle. He is a really awesome guy and so funny. He and all the people around me ;) laughed when I took this photo of him.

Here is a better photo of Robert. I'M TALLER THAN HIM!!! Finally... hahaaaa. It might not look like it, but I am crouching. That is little Danika in my hands. She is really cute and laughy.

Here is a nicer photo of us, but there is no Danika, so the picture is worthless....

Trying to be cool.
Here is Samuel. He twenty-one years old. Love this guy. I think I already said it, but whatever. Gonna go fasting with him next Saturday from six o'clock in the morning to two o'clock in the afternoon in the wilderness. That is in local Malawi time - not Canadian time.

And this handsome guy is Gifti (maphatso.) He is my pen-pal that I was emailing with for a few months. He is a really nice guy, and he smiles a lot. Again, he is smaller than me. It is a big point for me, because I used to be a midget. Next weekend I will be staying with him and his uncle for the weekend. The weird look I am giving in this photo was not supposed to happen. I was dancing around and saw that Keiran was about to take a photo, so I jumped back into the frame. Thus, I look like Ronald McDonald.

Bros for 2 months.
Here is a better photo of our close up faces. Geez, I look like Dane - ma homie (brother).

Tomorrow I head out to the market.

  3. How old is K? Note that "a lot" is two words, not one! Sounds like you have made some very special friends for life. Took me ages to get into this one but that's because I have blown all my usage time until October 25--the fact that I can get in at all is miraculous. xx G&G
