So it turned out that I decided to go to Blantyre with Evance, project manager, instead of helping get the fish out of the fish-pond. I kind of wanted to hang with Evance, but also I am not the fish type. Like at all. And I figured that they had enough workers, so ya - I decided to go to Blantyre with Evance.
I decided to take my iPod Nano and a speaker. Evance was really happy about that. I started off with some Bob Marley reggae. They all know and listen to Bob Marley here. Then I got into the pop and electrical music. His favourite was the the big bass and beat songs. He really liked, "I'm an Albatraoz" by 'AronChupa, and he also liked, "Blame," by Calvin Harris featuring John Newman.
He kept on mentioning how the speaker was too quiet. I will admit that it was not as loud as normal speakers, but he kept on wanting them louder even when we placed the speaker behind our heads. (Not in the dash-board.)
Driving on the cliffs. |
On our way back to the Hope Village, we nearly crashed. So this layout shows how it happened.
Evance and I were driving between eighty and one hundred km/h, when he decided to pass a truck. It is a thing here to pass everyone that is going slower. There is no waiting, only rushing. That is how many people are killed every year here in Malawi.
So Evance decided to pass the truck and I could tell that he was testing to see if he had enough time to pass the minibus that was closing in on us. He decided that we didn't have enough time, and so we pulled hard back into our lane. It had rained just before, so as Evance slammed on the brakes, the truck kept on skidding for a few seconds. I knew we were going to rear-end the dump-truck full of passengers. There was no way that we couldn't have. But amazingly, the truck stopped a foot or less from hitting the dump-truck. It was literally a miracle. All the people in the back of the dump-truck were all wide-eyed and freaked out. They started yelling at me to get out of the car because they thought Evance was a crazy driver. Lol

Yes - we drive on the left like England. So after all that, we had to drive the cliffs. The roads are beside these huge cliffs, and a hundred feet or more below is the road. It wraps around like a continuous S. So I had to try to stay alive on those cliffs going pretty fast down them on wet roads. Lol. The relief when we reached the bottom of them was intense.
At three PM, I headed over with Heston and listened to him to speak his passage in his language, and then I was allowed to speak on my topic: The death of Christ, his coming down from Heaven, and the pain that Jesus went through for them.
I had written those two papers, but I barely looked at them. I just used them as guides. We had a big talk about baptism.
At six, we went over to Luca's, the garden manager, for a dinner of rice and chicken meat. Yes, I know. I have lots of manager friends. As we waited for the food to be ready, Keiran and I wandered around freaking the kids out. We'd creep around in the dark and walk up to them as they were building their fires for their dinner and then we would slam two bricks together and jump at them. It would work pretty well at freaking them out.
Lucky, lucky, your own miracle--perhaps your first--remind me to tell you of mine sometime xxG&G
