Gone Before My Time

I warned Keiran over and over, but he said he was okay with doing an all-nighter. It being his first one and all.... Well, he is only fourteen, so there will probably be more.

'Sleep Like A Baby Tonight,' U2.
We arrived in Blantyre, and Leila wanted to get some more school books for a student in the time that she had before leaving for Canada. So while she did that, I went looking at pretty expensive clothing store. Fifteen thousand Kwatcha for a pair of shoes. (1000 Kwatcha = $2.50) A hoodie I wanted cost fifty-five thousand Kwatcha.

'God is good - all the time, and all the time, God is good.' God's Not Dead.
After Leila found her books, we all went to a small food court to have lunch. As we sat down, we were swarmed with three or four waitresses from different restaurants wanting us to buy from them.

As I was sitting there waiting for the food to arrive, I noticed how the chairs and tables were all made out of aluminum. They were quite weak, but it didn't stop this Malawian from sitting on the fragile aluminum table.

As Darren and Leila talked, after lunch was finished,  I went walking around the mall for a bit and found a really sweet shoe store. There was a pair of boots there like these ones below that would be cool to have. The only difference is that they are a pale tan-ish colour, not brown.

We arrived at the airport at one-ish. It was a pretty fast drop off compared to North American type airports. We pulled out her bags -

- took a mother and son photo, and said our goodbyes.

A closer one, just cuz they are both smiling in this one. Haha. I never thought that Leila would be going back to Canada in the two months I was there. It's so weird to have any of them going back before me.

Like geez! An Amish-type family in Malawi!

Like what is with this new president. Lol. Does he have a sense of humor or is he pointing out the obvious.

Forty-seven degrees! Ya, it's warm.
Darren, Keiran, and I went into Game to get some paint. We spent awhile in the Electronic section looking at stuff and came across this fifty-five inch TV. Check it out! It's free! Lol.

Here's the one right beside it. A bit of difference in cost. Lol.

A Game worker showed me this bite that he got, when he was being attacked by some people. At least it was only a bite mark scar, since he told me that the guy tried putting a knife through his skull.

Now on the way back to the heat in Hope Village.

Riding the cliffs down the mountain.
I remember going on the mini-bus to Blantyre and having these villagers crowding us with their fruits that they wanted us to buy. Now it's these guys' turn.

On the way home, we were traveling through a village down the main road. There was a little six or fve year old standing on the edge of the road looking like he was going to run across. He turned his head back to the person he was talking to, so Darren figured it safe to pass. (We were driving at around seventy kilometers an hour. Instead of looking before crossing, the boy bolted into the street into the path of our Toyota Rav4. Darren slammed on his breaked, pulled a hard left, honked all at once to avoid the boy. Darren figured that if he turned to the way the boy was running, that the boy would have minor injuries and not death. It was a very, very close call, but we missed him by that much. I finally understand the saying, "Look both ways before crossing the road." He had his angels with him this day.

The rest of the day from five on went fast. I'll finish with a photo of a frog that I caught. Look at the colours. Sweet, eh?

  2. Oh my, I did not hear about the near miss accident with the boy. That must have been so scary for all of you. I am so thankful that Darren is a quick thinker and a good driver and that the boy and you guys are alright.

  3. Ya it did kinda freak me out a bit, with how much of a close call it was. Yeah, Darren did a good job. Yes, Darren says if we would have hit the kid when trying to go around of him, that we would have rolled it. ANd he says with how far we were away from any good medical, it could have been really quite fatal for us.
